Todor Chapkanov wass born on July 29th, 1977 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
He grew up in a family of artists. His father Georgy Chapkanov is one of the most recognized Bulgarian sculpturers and his mother Snejana was a photographer.
In 1994, at the age of 18, Todor joined the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts „Krastyo Sarafov“ to study Film and TV Directing. During his time there, he directed few short films, documentaries and different shows for two of the national TV channels in Bulgaria.
In 2000 Todor graduated with a Masters Degree from the same Academy and in 2001 started working, as an Assistant Director for „UFO International“, an American film company based in Bulgaria.
Between year 2001 and 2018, Todor worked as First Assistant Director and Second Unit Director in over 50 movies including, „The Way Back“, „Return to the House on the Haunted Hill“, „Hitman’s Bodyguard“, “London Has Fallen” and many others.
In 2007 Todor got his Directorial Debut with the movie „Copperhead“ for “Universal” and „UFO International“. At the end of 2007, Todor shot also „Thor: Hammer of the gods“, again for “Universal”.
In 2009 Todor was invited to the United States to direct the movie „Monsterwolf“ for Active Entertainment.
After working on „Miami Magma“ and „Weather Wars“ with the same company, Todor returned to Bulgaria in 2011 and started working on one of the highest rated Bulgarian TV series – the period drama „Tree of Life“.
Between 2012 and 2014 Todor directed the movies „Vampyre Nation“, „Crystal Skulls“ and „Viking Quest“ for “Odisey Pictures”.
In 2015, Todor Directs the sports action movie “Boyka: Undisputed” for Millennium Films.
Between 2016-2018, Todor directs over 20 episodes and is a show runner of the Bulgarian TV series “Dear Heirs”. Highest rated prime time show on National Television.
Throughout his career, Todor Chapkanov has directed 15 movies, numerous TV series, TV shows, Commercials and music videos.
